What I’m Into (September 2013)

in what i'm into

Hey Gang! It’s been over two months since I’ve shared what’s going on around here in books, music, food, and everyday life. Starting this month I’ve changed the name of this post series to “What I’m Into” so that I can link up with Leigh Kramer and other lady bloggers who also like sharing monthly favorites. I also created a new blog category for this series so you can easily find my other posts.

Without further adieu…

Reading: I’ll be honest…I’ve had difficulty concentrating on books since Owen was born. I read lots of blogs using my Feedly app, but I haven’t finished one entire book. A few things I’ve been reading but haven’t finished: Forever Erma; And the Mountains Echoed; That’s Why I’m Here: The Chris and Stephanie Spielman Story; and Emotionally Healthy Spirituality

Listening to: Seeds Family Worship, Seeds of Purpose album. (This is a FANTASTIC album for families. It’s one of the only kids’ CDs I listen to and actually enjoy. In fact, I’m starting to memorize more scripture because of this album.) Thank you, Bronwyn, for gifting it to us. Also, you can listen to some of my favorite adult music by clicking over to my Spotify playlist. Think John Mayer, Joshua Radin, One Republic, Maroon 5.

Cooking: Chicken teriyaki bowls and Costco’s pumpkin ravioli with brown butter sage sauce.

Baking: Clean oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (Chelsea made us a plate of these and I gobbled them up within a day. So of course I had to make another batch which was also gobbled up promptly.)

Watching:  A whole lotta Scandal. Guys, I’m addicted! I think my former life in crisis communications has me even more intrigued by this drama than I’d normally be. If you don’t watch Scandal I’d highly recommend catching up on Netflix, although be forewarned there is some violence and sexual content you’ll want to consider skipping. Oh, and I’m also watching a lot of Thomas the Train, Amazing Airplanes, and Dumbo. (We had our first mommy daughter movie night this week, complete with popcorn. It was a blast!)

Wearing: My new red TOMS. Anna might have a matching pair. I always thought TOMS looked ugly on my feet which is why I never bought a pair. Now I’m kicking myself for not buying them sooner. Also, my closet is already swapped from summer to fall attire, mostly because I’m tired of wearing the same maternity shirts over and over. I’m still in that in-between stage where normal summer clothes don’t fit quite right but I don’t want to buy anything new until next spring. I can’t WAIT for sweater and boots weather!

Staying busy by:  Chasing kids, rocking a baby, cleaning, cooking, going to see Mr. Cooper at the library, running a few days a week, trying to blog, etc.

Thankful for: A husband who works so hard for our family, the time we spent with our families this month, and a chance to catch up with a few girlfriends last week.

Anticipating:  Our trip to Santa Barbara next week for Nathan’s wedding. We rented a house on the Riviera with a bunch of other families. I get to meet baby Kate, catch up with special friends, and get dolled up for a night out with Jonathan. Oh, and speaking of Jonathan…it’s his 31st birthday this Saturday! We’re celebrating with a Tacky Tourist themed party in midtown. I’ll have to post photos next week.

Bought: A long awaited purchase this month was a Seahawks shirt for myself. I’m pretty thrilled about this shirt, which is funny since I’d don’t even like football all that much. But Jonathan thinks I look cute which makes me happy. 🙂

Any good music, book, tv, movie or recipe suggestions?

Renting a house on the Riviera sounds AMAZING. Hope you had a good time.

Santa Barbara, yay! Liz and I were there for a couple nights in early August and it was wonderful.

Isn't Emotionally Healthy Spirituality so fantastic?!

READING: whatever my professors tell me to. Sometimes I like it; most often I cannot wait until its done

LISTENING TO A LOT OF: United Pursuit Band (worship), Rend Collective Experiment (Irish Worship), Bear's Den (chill folky stuff, small band on Mumford and Son's label), stand-up comedy on spotify (via a "Hannibal Buress" radio station)

TV: Parenthood, SNL, New Girl mostly after the girls are all asleep and if we have energy left...
