The Goings Ons v. 8

in what i'm into

Reading: Insurgent, and The Writing Life by Annie Dillard. If you’re a Hunger Games fan, you’ll like Insurgent. Easy easy read, and quite captivating.

Listening to: Taylor Swift’s new album, RED, and Christmas music! (Spotify has Colbie Caillat’s Christmas in the Sand and A Very She & Him Christmas)

Thankful for: Mom’s Connection at First Covenant Church. I have loved meeting so many lovely ladies this fall, and the childcare is an additional perk.

Anticipating: Decorating our tree, taking Anna to the Advent program at church, and all the joys that come with watching Christmas through a child’s eyes. The big question: how many times will she attempt to pull ornaments off the tree before I go crazy?

Cooking: Butternut macaroni and cheese-there are a million different recipes on Pinterest. I combined several of them to make my own version. E-mail me if you want it!

Baking: Pumpkin cookies with maple cream cheese frosting. Next week I’m going to attempt Oreo truffles with a peppermint twist. I can’t wait for our church’s Christmas cookie exchange. Sugar overload…

Watching: Nashville (The return of Tammy Taylor!!) and Call the Midwives. It’s up close and personal, but really fascinating. Expires online in a few days so hurry up.

Wearing: My sweater Uggs, my red rain boots and lots of layers.

Any good music, book, tv, movie or recipe suggestions?

This is such a cool feature idea! I have Insurgent on my shelf and am so excited to tackle it soon! My recommendation for everyone right now is Gone Girl. It does get a little sexually explicit towards the middle or end of it, but the storyline is so intense and fascinating I just whipped right through it any ways! The pumpkin cookies look and sound amazing too!

Books: Everything by Mary DeMuth, Wonderstruck by Margaret Feinberg (releases on Christmas day, but you can pre-order). An old read, but maybe you haven't yet had the pleasure: Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers; I've read it three times and still love it! Music: I LOVE David Crowder Band's final two CD's especially Church Music. To watch: hooked on Downton Abbey...even my husband is hooked (ok, even more than I am. He'd admit it). Recipes: my grandmother's Walnut Slice Bars - a Christmas fave, but we also had them at our wedding :)

Get up and RUN to Target and buy Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It's written for middle schoolers but I can guarantee you will LOVE it!!!

The Advent thing sounds cool! Next year let me know, I'd love to take my kids! Your angel girl is the sweetest. Are you free on Tuesday or Thursday morning to come over for a little playdate/coffee?

Book recommendation: Karen Swallow Prior's Booked: Literature in the Soul of Me. I just finished it and am posting a review next Wednesday that will go into detail, but the bottom line is ... get your hands on it as soon as possible!
