Every Party has a Pooper

For anyone concerned, I have fully recovered from the DIY coma I sent myself into last week. Although I must admit I had a temporary lapse in judgement at the grocery store last Friday when I almost attempted this Pinterest inspired cake. Fortunately I happened to look over in the bakery refrigerator at the right time and saw the purtiest mini pink cake…which I then purchased for $8.99. Score.

We had family and a few friends over for a casual ice cream social in the backyard on Saturday. Anna’s actual birthday is the 18th, but we wanted our family from out of town to come so we planned the gathering a little early. I don’t know what I’d have done without Marlene, my mom, and Allison’s help because I came down with a fever the night before the party. Sadly our little one caught whatever I was battling because she was a cranky hot mess for most of her celebration. At first I chalked the whining up to teething but once everyone left we realized she had a 103 degree temperature! I took my temp around the same time and it was 102. We cooled her down with Tylenol and wet rags, then both of us got into bed. This morning we woke happy as clams.

All that to say, our birthday girl doesn’t appear too happy in any of her photos, and she was quite underwhelmed by her cake. I doubt she had a very good time but I think her party guests did. She got some lovely little outfits and toys, and we all chowed down on Gunther’s ice cream. We also had everyone help with a time capsule we plan to present it on her 21st birthday.

I’ll be back with more birthday inspired posts as the week goes on…just because I’m a sappy mama in the worst way possible. Cue tears.

I think you did a wonderful job on the decorations! I'm like you, the DIY projects seem so easy, I start to feel creative thinking I can do them and then I'm lucky if it even half way looks like the picture! But these are so, so cute! Ana has a wonderful mamma! :)

This title made me laugh. FEAR NOT ANNA BANANA! Your boyfriend is going to treat you to ice cream tomorrow and (spoiler alert) might have even picked you out a darling "new" outfit from Thrift Town. Yay for birthdays!!
