Number of people–real friends + Facebook friends– who announced or had babies in 2009:  41 (Not counting Rebecca from Brothers & Sisters, since she feels like a friend) *

Number of people per month (on average) who ask when we’re “starting a family” : 10 **

Number of children we’ll have: That’s for God/my sanity to determine. Grandparents offering to babysit will play a factor in the decision.

Number (age) I’ll be when I get pregnant for the first time: Wouldn’t you and everyone else like to know? Ha! You don’t think I’ll actually tell you that number in a blog post, do you? giggle.

Extra credit to anyone who announces their pregnancy as a comment on my blog. Haven’t had that one happen yet, but I’m waiting.

*Numbers are not an estimate. I really spent about 15 minutes figuring this out due to my own curiosity.

**Numbers are an estimate. Months that include holidays, weddings or college reunions see numbers much higher.

Borrowed the cute baby picture from here.

Oh, Chase...I cannot tell you how happy I am that someone took me up on my offer for extra credit. Expect a super baby present sometime before August. Yay for both of you! Love you guys and can't wait to see you as parents!

So on this last day of the year I thought I would give your blog a read over and I came across this posting. Lisa is PREGO!! We are going to have a little one sometime around August 5th. Thought I would be the first to share in your comments. Happy New Year!!

Those- When, How many, Are you trying, questions are not new. They have been around for many generations. The best reply I think is, "Why are you asking"? After they stammer for an answer, realizing the inappropriateness of the question, you can tell them that, "God's in charge of letting us know when it's time".

So let me be clear...All I have to do is announce that I'm pregnant and I get extra credit??

You are going to be an ace at baby shower games by this time next year. Don't listen to a word that people say about how much "time" you have. We were told that we would have difficulty getting pregnant and we should start trying right away...obviously God had a much different plan and time line for us. Although I hear that there is something in the water over at 3Fold, even for people that have been gone awhile, maybe that had something to do with our double blessing.

thank you all for your comments! Yes, I have to admit, it's hard for me to understand when people ask when we're going to start a family, and if we're "trying" to have kids. It seems like such a personal question to ask, especially when my response is followed up with things like, "Don't wait too long or you'll have a hard time getting pregnant" or "You'll be really old if you want more than a few kids." To each her own, right? I'm going to trust God to figure it all out, in His perfect timing. Until then, I will enjoy reading about all your little ones!!

Gotta love it. I have no idea why it is socially appropriate to ask a couple if they are "trying" to have a baby. Do they know what that implies? Amazing that the comments never stop. When you have one, they want to know if you'll have 2. When you have 2, they wonder about #3. Then they ask if you are "done." People get a little freaked out when you have 3 children, like you are going to have 17 in a few months or something. Like rabbits. I tell people that making babies is the fun part. That quiets the comments for a bit.

such a cute way to address this Lesley...whenever the time happens, I know you're going to be a wonderful mom! I so enjoyed our conversation tonight and I've been thinking about what you shared with me about the couple you learned so much from on your retreat! Oh Oh, and I love that show Brothers and Sisters!!

We were not "trying" and so when we did "announce" it no one got that we were pregnant....I gave my mom a onsie that said "I love my Grandma" and she thought it was a shirt for her dog...We just always said five years(from whatever the year was). It will happen when and if God has designed it to and as I have learned... we don't get a say, unless we stay single and celibate:).

This was funny. I'm glad I'm past the stage of people asking "when". Especially since they were asking while we were trying and that was frustrating. We haven't gotten any "when's the next one" comments yet, so that's nice. Hope your baby journey goes well!! Whatever it may be ;)
