When I settled in at my office last Tuesday, my first day back from vacation, I was struck by how different the room felt. Had I really been gone so long? It took all afternoon until I finally realized that in the two weeks I was gone, life had been sucked out of the street outside my window. No leaves remain on the trees, nor do they cover the ground like they did in December. It is gray outside. The roses bushes at the park have been pruned. For the next few months, not much life is growing.
New life, in the dead of winter
Which is why I am thankful that Sharon babysat my paperwhites while I was gone. Although my first batch mysteriously did not bloom, I planted another round which sprung up quickly. Success!
