Red, ripe and really yummy
I just HAD to post a picture of my roma tomatos. I am such a proud mother hen that when we got home today I immediately ran out to the backyard, furiously collecting the ripe ones and mourning those that had stayed on the vine too long. Right now I’m reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver and it has only furthered my interest in eating locally grown, seasonal food. Although I don’t know if I could go to the extremes that Kingsolver’s family does (raising their own chickens, making cheese, eating roots and mushrooms all winter…) I do think that she has incredibly strong points about knowing where our food comes from and making the effort to pay attention to what we eat. I’ll be sure to post a few of my favorite parts of the book once I’ve finished it, but I will say that the book inspired us to stop by the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op today, where I got a delicious sandwich and bought a few perfectly ripe peaches. Mmmmm mmmm good!
