I think I just fell in love with Sacramento. Or rather, Sacramento’s easy Tahoe access. Don’t get jealous– we live less than two hours from at least ten major ski resorts– ok, you’re jealous. It’s ok. I would be too.
If I can’t have the beach, I think snow is quite possibly the next best thing. Jonathan and I got free tickets to Northstar at Tahoe and we took off early Sunday morning for an entire day on the mountain. It was warm, sunny and gorgeous. I’m used to crowded skiing from growing up at Mammoth, but the slopes were clear. A few times, we had the entire run to ourself. After transitioning back into office work, I have never appreciated fresh air more than I do now. Last winter we went to Park City for Sundance and my aunt Debbie gave me lessons. She’s a ski instructor at Deer Valley, and I definitely needed some help. I’ve always been scared of picking up too much speed but she helped me learn to make quick turns downhill. Now I can keep up with Jonathan….almost. I actually enjoyed all the blacks this time around! After skiing, we wanted to avoid the traffic on the highway so we hung out at the new ice skating rink and sat on the outdoor couches and sipped Starbucks. I couldn’t have asked for a better day! I forgot to take pictures, so I found this one on Flickr.com– the view of the lake from the top of the mountain. Priceless.
