What I’m Into (January 2014)

in what i'm into

…Here’s a little peak at what I’ve been into this past month…

Thebarge-TheInvisibleGirls-book-large

Books: I actually read quite a few books this month, but the only one I’d recommend is The Invisible Girls by Sarah Thebarge. I think I downloaded this book when it was on a Kindle super sale, and I’m so glad I did! (“Twenty-seven-year-old Sarah Thebarge had it all – a loving boyfriend, an Ivy League degree, and a successful career – when her life was derailed by an unthinkable diagnosis: aggressive breast cancer. After surviving the grueling treatments – though just barely – Sarah moved to Portland, Oregon to start over. There, a chance encounter with an exhausted African mother and her daughters transformed her life again.”)

Music: Baby by Justin Bieber and Party Rock Anthem (Anna’s dance favorites), Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark (my dance favorite), Amos Lee’s Mission Bell.

Food: Magical White Bean Soup (SO GOOD) and Chicken Fried Rice are just two recipes that have changed my life this month. We’re subscribing to Full Belly Farm’s CSA box again (after 2+ years off) which means I’m trying lots of new recipes. I’m also whipping up some baby food here and there, although I slowed down once realizing Owen spit everything out. Now that he’s eating more I need to pull my Cuisinart back out and get cookin’! Oh, and I finally tried Shauna’s Breakfast Cookies which were a big hit with Jonathan.

TV/Movies:  We snuck out for a date night earlier this month and saw Saving Mr. Banks…and I loved it just as much as I thought I would. And thanks to a friendly visitor named Mastitis, I also worked my way through much of Sister Wives’ latest season on Netflix.

Speaking of being sick, I’m finally taking probiotics. I’ve been giving them to Anna for a few months now but was too cheap to buy them for myself. Our co-op recommended a liquid coconut water version called inner eco. I’m giving it a shot because it was only $13 for a month supply. Do you take probiotics?

Wearing: I’ve officially turned into the yoga pant mom. Since we’ve all been home a lot this month due to illness, I’m rotating between my workout clothes and the two new shirts from Christmas. (A cute Anthro top my mom gave me, and a blue checkered button down from Jonathan.) I’m also super into my Stella and Dot stackable rings, another gift from mom.

Anticipating: The big game! Jonathan is a HUGE Seahawks fan so the whole family will be sporting our gear, eating nachos, and praying. I’ll also be potty training Anna. Wish I’d thought to purchase Seahawks undies to really get in the spirit.

I want to be a yoga pant mom!  I don't have any that I really like... what do you recommend?  I know when I find myself seriously considering the Pajama Jeans in the checkout line, that I need an intervention.  =)  I need to mix up some more baby food, too.  Sam is slurping it down these days.

Can't wait to hear how potty training goes. :)  Reece is sooo resistant to the idea right now.  He likes reading his "potty books" okay, and even has a little potty that he will throw toilet paper in here and there, but any mention of actually using it makes him run in the other direction!  He got "big boy underwear" for Christmas, but threw it aside and refuses to try it on or engage us in conversation about it.  He won't even wear pull-ups!  ("No, Mommy...I just wear my diaper.")  Sigh.  It may be a long, slow road for us. :)

Hi Lesley! So first things first, I have totally been looking for a new book to read! Thanks for the suggestion! And as a mom who also wears yoga pants frequently I always think about it like this: when our moms stayed home they wore sweatpants. Really bad ones. My mom always jokes when we look at some of my early baby pictures that she clearly must not have worn anything but sweatpants because she had them in every color. So thank goodness we have evolved from those! ;)

Love this for so many reasons - LOVE Amos lee (his "arms of a woman" is definitely on my all-time fave song list), also experienced mastitis this month (well, this is not a love, which you know...first and hopefully last time I ever experience that), also started taking probiotics but am not very good at remembering it (oops), that book looks awesome so I'll put it on my list, we are moving out of the puréed baby food stage (praise Jesus), and of most importance, GO HAWKS!!!! (and go potty training - that is a giant plus when it is over. During, not so much). Wish we lived close enough to maybe be real-life friends instead of online-dating friends ;)

@Sarahkerner  Okay, here is my yoga pant tip...I love Zelda leggings. Nordstrom always has them for cheap(er) during their anniversary (summer) sale. They aren't as expensive as Lululemon but wear very well.

@AllisonTyrochWoodard  We tried to potty train last June when Anna was 23 months. It was a complete and total disaster...as in... after 3 full days I cried and threw in the towel. I've never blogged about it because it was so traumatizing. So far she's done better today than all 3 days combined last June. I am praying for success!

@ChristinaKiefer  I LOVE this reminder. You are so right...we have lots more options now than our moms did. :) I actually need to just accept my yoga pant wearing lifestyle right now and buy a few more cute workout pieces. And headbands have also been my friend this winter since I don't wash my hair as much these days.

@marisaloper  I wish we lived closer too! We'd TOTALLY be friends! Where are you, anyway? I can't remember? We have so much in common!

@LesleyM @marisaloper Sammamish! Not too far from where your hubby grew up :) we are not locals though...eric grew up in Fresno and I grew up in Ontario (southern California version, not Canada)

@marisaloper So funny since Jonathan's family is now residing near Ontario. At some point we'll have to meet in person. :)
