Nose sucking, exercise excuses and weekend plans

nose sucker

In a few hours Jonathan will be home from work and our weekend begins. Weekends with small children look a lot different than weekends without children, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find a little time for rest and play. Tomorrow I’m going “golfing” which basically means I’m leaving Jonathan with the kids to do whatever I want for a four hour chunk of time. BLISS!

Last Sunday we made our first attempt (since children) at observing the sabbath. It was a valiant effort until we had to spend a few hours in the emergency room with Owen who wasn’t breathing well. Oddly enough, the rest of the day was super relaxing…perhaps the best Sunday we’ve had in a long time. I love how God blessed our day despite there being a hiccup to our restful plans.

Speaking of Owen, here’s a new gadget I’m loving: the infamous Frida nose sucker! Our pediatrician kept recommending this thing, and I kept resisting, but I’m so glad we bought it. Baby boy is on the mend. Now I’m officially the mom who sucks boogers out of her kids’ noses. (Anyone else have this thing? I got lots of interesting Instagram comments when I posted a photo yesterday.)

Even more frightening/intriguing: The Windi. Putting it on my list for baby #3 someday.

My “Excuse” for not exercising… a great response to the image that went viral last week of a fit mama with three young kids.

I’m finally working on our living room curtains situation, and thanks to this post I bought roman shades and a new curtain rod.

Anyone tried Total Barre or the Dailey Method before? I took a barre class last night and thought it was a good workout, but a little bit boring. I did like pretending to be a ballerina…until I couldn’t get my leg up on the barre. Still determining if I want to try it again.

What if Facebook makes me a better mom?

A fantastic and intriguing conversation over at Modern Mrs. Darcy– What Keeps Women From Showing Up? (My response: lack of childcare.)

SaddleUp- the intersection of Jews for Jesus and the Cowboy life. This one will make you think!

Happy weekend!

Where did you try the barre class? I have been wanting to give it a shot but didn't know if there were any places in Sacramento.

@clarepfoley DFX Pilates on McKinley Boulevard has four classes a week! And The Dailey Method in Roseville is opening a Sacramento location in the near future. Let me know if you go! I've been trying to decide if I'm going to buy a few more sessions.

Love my snot sucker!!! My kids hate it but hey, they can breathe again! The windi...I laughed out loud but if it works then I guess it works?! Neither of my kids suffered too much from gas issues so no need.... yet! As far as barre...I have been wanting to try it but am sticking with hot yoga for now. Its free at my gym which has childcare - no brainer right there.

@marisaloper Your gym has hot yoga! Oh my. That's amazing! I love hot yoga. It's such a hard workout (for me) that I don't get bored.

I love the Dailey Method. I got out in Roseville and soon they are opening downtown. I like the emphasis on the core and lengthening and stretching while toning. Let me know if you ever want to join me in Roseville. I think your first time is free.

@AllisonFullerMoore My friend Dana keeps telling me I need to try the Roseville location. They have free childcare too, right? The downtown one is opening next to a candy store which is also super tempting. :)

Thanks for the linkage, Lesley.

And I'm glad to hear Owen's on the mend; we used an aspirator when our kids were little, but it sounds like that nose thingy you bought does the trick nicely.
