Friday’s Best of the Web

in feel good friday

Guess what? For the last two days, Owen has taken a long afternoon nap! I lay on our bed with him to make it happen (NOT A SUSTAINABLE OPTION) but I’ve loved the few hours of peace. Noise machine, ceiling fan, dark room = happy baby, happy mama. Now if someone could just bring me a tropical drink or a bowl of ice cream…

Here are a few articles I’ve read during middle-of-the-night feedings:

Jonathan made me read this article and I’m really glad I did: 9 questions about Syria you were too embarrassed to ask

I don’t know if I agree that homemaking is the most important work in the world (that’s a debate I don’t dare to cross today) but I certainly think it’s an extremely important job.

How I learned to love my literal neighbors …inspiring and thought provoking.

I went for my first post-baby run last Saturday. I was sore for two days afterwards, but the good kind of sore. Any runners out there? You might like these articles: Does pregnancy change a runner’s body? And 29 Signs You’re a Runner

Man, 96, enters song contest to pay tribute to love of his life (tear jerker alert!) Also, my grandparents (Roland and Lorraine) have been married over 65 years so obviously I love this video even more than the average person.

Why I won’t take a stand on gay marriage basically sums up how I feel about the whole deal. I said it a long time ago, and I’ll say it again: I wish the government never got themselves involved in marriage, period. It sure has complicated things.

Attention technology geeks! I’m soooo glad Michelle told me about Pocket. I’ve been using it to bookmark all the articles and posts I see floating around Twitter. I used to leave a bunch of browsers open. Now I bookmark what I want to read, and access it on my phone at 2:00am. YES.

A World Breastfeeding Week salute. My favorite line? “And to those of you living in the desert and breastfeeding in sweltering heat, I salute you twice. You and your sweaty babies.”

I can’t wait to try this homemade pad thai.

Happy Labor Day weekend y’all! Any fun plans? I hope to go for a run, attend a free yoga class and do a bit of shopping. If just one of the three things happens, I’ll be pleased as punch.
