Happy Fourth of July, everyone! I hope you have plans to eat popsicles, watch a parade, sit by a pool, or take a nap. We will definitely be doing the parade and pool thing today, and likely listening to Bruce Springsteen. Because, why wouldn’t you? Here are a few things keeping me busy this past month:

Reading: The Getaway Car: A Practical Memoir About Writing and Life by Ann Patchett

Listening to: The Lone Bellow

Cooking: What am I not cooking, is the question? My nesting urges with this baby are OUT.OF.CONTROL. Over the last month I’ve made 10 freezer meals—lots of crock pot carnitas, fantastic Italian burgers, curry chicken, manicotti, and shredded BBQ chicken for sandwiches and salads. And then I cleaned the inside of my fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. Weird.

Baking: The oven is off until we get out of this awful heat wave. But, if baby doesn’t show up soon I have big plans to make chocolate chip cookies and a cheesecake. (Again: nesting.) Also- cottage cheese + blueberries = an amazing addition to pancakes?

Wearing: Jonathan’s boxer shorts (because I’m running out of pajama options that fit) and Lisa’s navy blue striped maternity dress (because it feels like pajamas!)

Staying busy by:  Cleaning. Making lists. Wrapping Anna’s birthday presents. Visiting the chiropractor (because the baby is sunny side up right own. Bummer.) Hanging out in the Eastway’s pool, and, drumroll, finishing my book proposal. (It’s now officially done and going out to publishers early next week. Eeek!)

Thankful for: Anna’s vocabulary explosion—which has made motherhood so much fun. Some of her favorite phrases these days: “I get it!” “I do it!” “Anna’s crying” and “Anna’s dancing!” (As if we can’t see or notice these actions without her telling us!) “Baby brother! Baby brother!” and “Bless you, Mommy.” <–which melts my heart.

Anticipating:  Baby boy’s arrival and a cooler weekend forecast.

Buying: We got Anna a baby doll and accessories as a big sister gift, and she’s also getting a Little People Plane and a latch board for her birthday. The girl is obsessed with buckles, keys and latches these days. I can’t wait to watch her play with all her new things this month. (And, I’m hoping they keep her busy while baby boy keeps US busy.)

Any good music, book, tv, movie or recipe suggestions?

I would like to know what freezer meals you made.  I made some but they aren't very good.  What if the baby doesn't turn?  Do you just deliver him face up?

I'm reading Jennifer Grant's "Love You More" right now, but I hesitate to recommend such a tear jerker to you right now!
