Does your family have a bucket list?

One summer, when I was maybe 10 or 11, my parents rented a 15 passenger van and took us on a road trip around the western United States. We had such a good loud whiny fun time that a few years later they rented an RV and took us everywhere in the west we hadn’t seen during the first trip. I remember long days spent staring at painted deserts, grassy plains, towering Colorado Rockies, and rainy northwest skies.

Years ago Jonathan and I made a travel bucket list on the backside of a paper plate, which I promptly lost. We haven’t officially made another once since, but as I watch Anna grow I can’t help but make a mental list of all the things I hope we can do as a family before she turns 18.  I’d love to take our kids to all my favorite spots like the Havasupi Indian Reservation at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, the Denver metro area to see our Westmont friends, Seattle to see where Jonathan grew up, and camping along the Southern California coast. Oh, and a southern road trip through Birmingham, Nashville, Montgomery and New Orleans is also a must!

If you’re anything like me, I think you’ll be really excited about a new e-book called Family Bucket Lists by Lara Krupicka. Her book debuted earlier this week and contains 42 pages of content to help families:

•    dream together of what they want to do before the children are grown.
•    set off on adventures, big and small, together and individually.
•    enliven weekends and vacations with plans that match what they want most from life.
•    discover new things about one another as each person unearths and shares their dreams and aspirations.
•    find simple ways to incorporate life goals into everyday living.
•    make the most of the years they have together.

Lara’s book is available here for just $10, but I’m also giving y’all a chance to win a free PDF download simply by leaving a comment. Here’s what I want to know: If you could only pick one place to travel before you died, where would you go?

Comments are open until this Saturday at 6:00pm. I’ll use random.org to pick a winner and announce it in the comments section.

Okay, I'm late on the contest... Shoot!  I didn't read the directions clearly until the due date was past.  As you are aware, I'm a huge travel dreamer and it's pretty difficult to narrow my dreams down to only one place before I die.  So with that in mind, I have some explaining to do.  One of the things I really have wanted to do for a long time is to take the whole family to Lake Powell for a week on a houseboat.  However, the time is never right, and it doesn't look promising in the near future because we can't leave babies at home, and we can't take them out on the water when they aren't swimmers... So that will have to wait for a few years.

Secondly, and in the meantime, while I wait for my g-babies to grow a little, my second wish is to to go on a cruise through the Greek Islands and the Holy Land.  Of course, that may be a little pricey too.  So, with that in mind ... The only thing I really want to do before I die is spend time with my family, which may just be a simple camping trip to Mammoth , Yosemite, or the beach.  :)

I don't have too many dreams, right?  Love you,

xoxoxo

@annsebek No such thing as too many dreams! Lake Powell would be soooo fun. I've wanted to do that ever since hearing about the trips you took when I was a toddler (and left at home). Greek Islands and Holy Land would be amazing. (Turkey and Croatia too!) I can't wait to take our kids to Mammoth to ski, and to Yosemite. I've heard Hetch Hetchy is really beautiful for camping. I'd love to do the Havasupi trail again to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and mom/daughter New York trip! Too many things, too little time (and money). :)

I would really like to take my family to Antigua, Guatemala. After going in college it's one place that I must share with Chris and the kids!

Les, I'm sure you meant to put Alaska on your bucket list right? :)

And...apparently I was so excited about it that I didn't answer the question: I would love to visit Australia with my husband someday.

I love this idea! It will make a great date night topic.

Does touring around our glorious country for several months count as one?

@Andrea Zundel YES. As long as it's done in a cool retro trailer of some kind.

Ireland...for a silly reason...my wonderful teen daughter discovered the Irish boyband Westlife shortly before they disbanded. We all love their music. Becoming acquainted with them sparked her interest in learning more about Ireland and now she daydreams of going there someday. It would be a wonderful adventure to share with her :-)

@Mrshinds2001 Ireland is a beautiful country! I love the idea of going with your daughter. What an amazing memory you'd make.

England, without a doubt. I want to be there for a YEAR! Or something like that.

@ClaireBaganzBone I got to do that one. My sixth (and last) year of college undergrad was at the University of Sussex near Brighton. It was even better than you're thinking right now, Claire.

I love this! Thanks for sharing about the book and hosting the giveaway. If I could pick only one place to travel before I died, I would pick MAINE! It is such a beautiful state!
