The Stanford Church in the Photowalk Storm

During hard times I’ve often found much hope through scripture, sermons and songs. If you’re in a place of suffering, whether it be due to disease, a death, or any other heartache, here are my recommendations:

And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who’ve been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. His heart is steady, he will not be afraid. Psalm 112:7

I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Psalm 16:8

My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul. Psalm 94:19

P.S. I love the architecture of that church on the Stanford campus. We toured Stanford when our daughter was looking at colleges a few years ago, and entered the church while there. Absolutely beautiful.

Songs and Scripture - I once started writing a song that used that verse from Psalm 16 that you mention above, Leslie. I got no further than that one line, though, verse 8. So I stopped. Oh well. On dealing with times that are tough, I just posted last Friday a reflection from Keri Wyatt Kent's book Deeply Loved that goes to that. Essentially, it goes with the same idea you have here: focus on God and the fact he is with you always. "And get this – neither feeling happy or sad is a reflection of your standing with God." God's with us through it all. Tim
