“Your grandfather is a doctor and he compares himself to an auto mechanic: He opens the hood, makes an educated guess as to the problem, offers his best solution, and hoes that it works. Doctors are educated scientists, but they aren’t magicians. Search for a doctor you trust, tell him or her the truth, and work together to address your medical needs.”

-Jaime Morrison Curtis, from the book Prudent Advice

In my experience, I know my body better than anyone else. I know my baby’s body better than anyone else. Trust your instincts. Do your research. Speak up if you’re uncomfortable. Advocate. Ask questions. Your body is not a textbook. Jonathan’s cancer was discovered because he paid attention to his body and didn’t ignore warning signs. Do not live in fear. Rather, live with perception and care for your body, and ask God to give you wisdom as you care for yourself and those you love.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. And related to this, we need to hold ourselves accountable to better health. We talk extensively about health insurance, but not nearly enough about wellness and prevention -- and that starts with each of us being accountable to the food we eat, the exercise we get, the smoking we shouldn't do, etc. (Yes, I am the world's worst offender of a terrible diet and no exercise).
