Last weekend, our pastor showed the clip of overnight sensation, Susan Boyle of Britain’s Got Talent. It wasn’t the first time I’d seen the performance, considering it was practically plastered all over every one’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Yes, she was fun to watch. Yes, I love her sassy hip wiggle. Yes, I may have even been a little bit moved. But, what I’m more amazed by, more than anything else, is Simon Cowell’s sheer brilliance in TV scripting and editing.
No doubt, producers saw in Susan Boyle what they saw two years ago in Paul Potts. Remember him? I blogged about his performance in June 2007. If you forget who he is, you’ll definitely want to watch the clip for several reasons. One, he gives a memorable and emotional performance that I haven’t gotten tired of watching. But, more interestingly, the segment is eerily similar to that of Susan Boyle. Same underdog singer, same judges, same push of the music, same excited audience, and same reaction from fans around the world.
Interesting. Very, very interesting.
