I believe…

I believe birthdays should be a big deal, no matter how old you are. I believe that dogs bring a lot of joy, even when they smell bad and eat cookies off your counter. I believe that blogging isn’t bragging, but simply opening up conversation. I believe that big goals can only be achieved by choosing to make consistent little steps every day, even when you lack the motivation. I believe a house filled with pictures makes a home. I believe Prague is one of the prettiest cities I’ve been to, but I love the people in China more. I believe that J. Crew should carry pants in lengths, even if there aren’t as many tall girls like me. I believe that it’s important to have people over for dinner, even if you just serve greasy pizza. I believe that the Hills is trash tv, but I still watch it anyway. I believe that my moisturizer is key to clearer skin, but it could just be that I’ve outgrown my childhood acne. I believe that a gentle spank on the butt can do a child well, and I’m not too concerned if that sounds cruel. I believe that I married into a great family, and I’m thankful because I know that can be rare. I believe that life friends don’t come around every day, so when they do you have to put in the effort to keep them close. I believe that hand-me-down floral couches are awesome, but when I buy a couch someday I’ll make sure it’s a solid color. I believe that if I knew my feet would grow to a size 11, I’d have started in on Chinese foot binding at a young age. I believe that if you’re going to work 40 hours a week you should like what you’re doing, but I know that can’t always happen. I believe coffee tastes bitter and isn’t good for you, but that won’t stop my husband from drinking it. I believe that 8 hours of sleep a night is vital for a health lifestyle, but 7 hours will sometimes have to do. I believe that running is great for exercise, but it’d be nice to take a pilates class every once in awhile. I believe that Sacramento falls are better than Orange County falls, but that doesn’t mean I don’t miss it there. I believe that families that ski together, stay together, even if that sounds cheesy. I believe that God laughs at us, especially me. I believe that Jesus models for us to forgive, and forget. I believe that each person offers a unique perspective on life, love, friendship and finances so even if I don’t agree, I’ll still listen. I believe that I haven’t gotten even close to figuring life out, so I’m thankful for a God who guides me, listens and speaks.
What do you believe?

Today there was a comment left on this post by someone I do not know. I have chosen to remove the comment, which is something I've never done before. The author shared her opinions about spankings but she did so in a way that was judging and rude. I believe in dialogue but when I tried to email the author her email address is not valid (which indicates to me that she is not a person who understands dialogue.) For that reason, her comment has been removed permanently. If she feels the need to express her opinion about parenting styles, she can go start her own blog.

for the record, german shephard/rottweiler mixes are simply the best, especially when named after pro basketball players. i believe you can tell a lot about a person by meeting their family. i believe that laughter is key to all good relationships. i believe that "on time" is a flexible term. i believe in educating yourself everyday. i believe in smiling and saying hello to people i don't know. i believe that a new pair of jeans will cure a bad day. seriously. try it. it works.

I'm willing to subscribe to your belief that J Crew pants should come in lengths, but only if you'll subscribe to my belief that they should also come in butt widths that have nothing to do with said length, or waist size for that matter. I believe that love covers a multitude of sins, and when you can't find love you can always fall back on good manners. I believe in the holy union of peanut butter and chocolate. I believe that 70% of life is showing up - showing up when we don't have the answers or the words or the foggiest clue, but looking earnestly at our own life and the lives of those we love and deciding to simply show up, again and again.

I believe that Lesley Miller is really talented and that she should be discovered soon. I also believe I heard a rumor that Jonathan was looking at law offices in santa barbara. I believe santa barbara would be richer with a little more Leslie influence.

I LOVE reading what you both believe! I find myself saying out loud "good one! oooo, another good one!" I especially agree with dressing up for church, choosing words carefully and money not making you happier. But is it ok if I believe that black labs are the best?

i believe the same about Prague, and i also believe that out of everywhere i've been, hardly any place takes my breath away like Santa Barbara. i also believe that going camping revives the spirit. i believe in dressing nicer for church than if you were headed to in-n-out. i believe in striving for originality. i believe in choosing your words carefully, whether speaking or writing; no matter if it's a work email, facebook message, or travel blog.
